The only time that worked for my Husband and I to throw a wedding shower with our families was in the sweet spot of down time between Christmas and New Years. So, we hosted a Christmas themed wedding shower

Here’s how we did it:

1. Supplies
2. Food & Drink
3. Games
4. Cards, Gifts, & Favors

Supplies

Since the holiday season is unyielding we ended up planning this shower the two days after Christmas entirely from scratch. 

Signage and games

All signage was designed in Canva and sent to our at home printer or staples to print. Six months prior to the shower I took the time to design a wedding shower invite myself and since we were pressed for time I used that base design as the background for all of the game cards and printed out the invite on a poster for the entrance of the shower. 

For extra fun we also added red heart shaped mylar balloons in bunches of 3 to try and compliment the christmas decor while also bringing in the wedding shower theme! Super easy and affordable addition

Food & Drink

Two days after christmas everyone was christmas food and cookied out! So we opped to serve fun appetizers that were also our fave eats that we could pick up premade from the store (sushi, charcuterie board, shrimp tempura, sliders, spanokopita, caesar salde, and various types of egg rolls)

What’s a party without some fun beverages? One of my favorite drinks around the holiday season is a Hot Honey Cranberry Margarita. A friend made these for me once and I have never missed a a year making them since! My fiance’s favorite liquor is whiskey, so we incorporated that into the night by also including a hot spice apple cider. For this drink we let our guests choose if they would like to enjoy it NA or Alcohlic by having the spice apple cider in a crock pot and the whiskey sitting next to it. In a crowd of non drinkers, by the end of the night both drinks were completely gone(pic for proof!).

Beyond our fun beverages we also offered champagne and seltzer water. 

Games

We opted for 3 active games and 3 non active games for the night 

Active:

1. Left Right Story – Everyone circles up and a bottle of wine or multiple bottles of wine are handed to the participants. Then a story about the bride and groom is to be read. Everytime Left or Right is mentioned, the bottle(s) must be passed in that direction
2. How well do you know the groom and bride – I think you’ve heard of this one!
3. Over or Under – Bringing betting to the wedding prep, pick over or under on a series of statements involving a numerical answer (i.e. the bride tried on 30 dresses before finding the one)

Non Active:

1. I love you around the world – I love you written in various languages and guest must try and correctly match the language to its respective “I love you”
2. Guess the Candy in the Jar – A popular game played at showers and then you get to keep the candy!
3. The ring game – Don’t say Wedding! Everyone starts with one ring, if someone says wedding you can take their ring. The person with the most at the end of the party wins!

Cards, Gifts & Favors

We thought it would be fun to tie our fun beverages into our favors, so we homemade spiced apple jam and hot honey as favors for our guests. We sourced mini 2 oz mason jars from the store, but if you are not in a pinch you could do amazon (if you look really close you can see our mini jars! sorry I never stopped to take a pic of those adorable jars!).

For gifts we had a collection of wine bottles, candles, and gift cards to our fave tea place. As far as gifts and cards from guests, there is no gift table needed, the christmas tree can function as the perfect gift and card table.
