How to Host a Simple Spongebob Themed Birthday Party🧽

| 2 min. read|

If you love quoting SpongeBob SquarePants in everyday life, it’s only right to celebrate with a Bikini Bottom inspired birthday bash. Here’s an easy DIY guide to hosting your own SpongeBob themed party with simple yet effective decor, food, and fun that Squidward might even like.

🌊 Decor: Bring Bikini Bottom to Life

Transform your space into an underwater paradise with these creative touches:

Photo Backdrop 📸

  • Blue streamer backdrop to channel deep ocean vibes
  • Bubble garland for an underwater effect
  • Green crepe streamers to mimic kelp feilds

Bikini Bottom Details

  • Posterboard “Bikini Bottom” town sign
  • Pink balloons with red circles and pink crepe streamers—because what is Bikini Bottom without jellyfish?
    • I used permanent markers to draw on the Jellyfish spots!
  • Jellyfish taped to the ceiling with long streaming legs (add one blue jellyfish as a nod to the show’s lore!)
  • If you are doing this outdoors you can also have bubbles or a bubble machine!
  • “No Weenies Allowed” sign on the entrance door
  • Iconic gold time-stamp letters (e.g., “Three Hours Later…”) for extra authenticity

This layered look makes your space feel immersive, playful, and instantly recognizable.

🍔 Food: Straight From the Krusty Krab

A SpongeBob party menu is incomplete without these themed treats:

  • Krabby Patty Sliders – Mini burgers served with fun labels
  • Plankton Jello Shooters & Mr. Krabs Jello Shooters – Green and Red Jello with DIY eye decals using markers and my Cricut
  • Themed Birthday Cake – Featuring the iconic quote:
    “Wanna know what’s funnier than 24? 25!” (Perfect for a 25th birthday!)

If you enjoy DIY challenges, try frosting the cake yourself and adding an edible image topper. It’s personal, budget-friendly, and super satisfying.

My party was relatively small, but here are some other fun foods that I did not have the headcount to execute:

  • Dr. Diet Kelp – Any cola or dark soda labeled as Dr. Diet Kelp
  • Pretty Pattys – Multi colored Macarons
  • Pizza – the one and only episode where the Krusty Krab makes and delivers pizza! (White box, with green diagonal stripe and “PIZZA” in red letters)
  • Kelp Soda – Any light colored soda labled as Kelp Soda
  • Chum Bucket – A bucket of gold fish, whales, or sweedish fish. Anything fishy as the chum bucket is know for serving food that is ground of fish parts

🎉 Fun: Games & Activities

No themed party is complete without interactive fun.

SpongeBob Trivia Showdown

  • Create a trivia presentation about episodes, quotes, and characters
  • Divide guests into teams
  • Optional: Turn it into a drinking game for adult parties
  • No grand prize required—bragging rights are enough!

You could also add:

  • “Pin the Tie on SpongeBob”
  • Best SpongeBob impression contest
  • Costume contest for characters like SpongeBob, Patrick, or Squidward

✨ Final Touches

  • Play a SpongeBob episode playlist in the background
  • Create themed drink labels
  • Send guests home with mini “Krabby Patty” candy favors

Whether you’re turning 25 or 35, a SpongeBob-themed birthday party is nostalgic, colorful, and guaranteed to get everyone quoting their favorite lines all night long!
